This is the view of the backyard this morning. It was beautiful out yesterday. Mother Nature has a very twisted sense of humor...

Sunday Views

Happy Sunday.
It is finally starting to feel like spring here. The snow is melting and the sun is shining plus we made it up to 19 degrees this week. There is rain in the forecast instead of snow. It seems like it might stay now and so it should, we have had to deal with way too much snow this year already.

I follow a lot of blogs in bloglovin and I read the one this morning from http://tamarackshack.blogspot.ca/
Do you follow that one as well? Anyway, I found her post very interesting this morning as it proves something that I have believed for a long time and yet I find people who would strongly disagree.
Firstly, I love animals and think that they are here for much more then a commodity for our use. They share our planet but have intricate social systems of their own. There was a picture of a mound of stuff that a muskrat had brought up from the bottom of the lake and put as a cover from predators. He/she used this as a bluff so that they could come up for air through the ice and be protected whilst doing so. Now I think that shows some rational thought and also foresight on the part of the muskrat. I have heard people say that they are just stupid animals but I will never believe that for a second. I talked to an ex hunter once and asked him why he stopped hunting. (Glad he saw the light) and he told me that he had shot a deer and not killed it and when he approached it to end its life, he saw tears in its eyes.

I watched a show on TV last nite that stated that we are the generations now that are responsible for causing the most extinctions in the history of our planet. We need to stop thinking that everything here is ours to exploit and remember that we only share the planet with these animals. We need to be their protectors and not destroyers or we will not have them anymore and will have taken them away from future generations to enjoy.

Ok, so that is my two cents worth for today.

I have posted a lot of free bees again this week on pinterest so please check that out.
I will be posting more pics of the latest quilt that I am working on a little later today, so check back for more posts later on.

Till then, have a great Sunday

Quilting Updates

I don't know about you but I really think that Pinterest is addictive. lol. For me it is anyway.
There has to be billions of pins up there and for anything and everything under the sun.

http://suzi2.blogspot.ca/

One of the pins led me to the site link above. This has so many patterns available free and for everything from sewing, quilting, knitting, cross stitch, needlepoint and everything in between.
You might want to have a look if you have some time on your hands.

I am making pretty good progress on my Cheryl Wall Quilt

But there is still quite a bit more applique to go.
I am hoping to have it done by this weekend so I can start something new or dig out some of the unfinished stuff I have here.

I have the last pieces of another quilt that was a block of the month so it is all ready for me to carry on and finish that up.
That is shown below. I have all the blocks finished and need to start the dark brown
and all those checker sections - yikes

I also have all the blocks finished for the Kansas Star Quilt pictured below.

I have all the backing and just need to put it together as well.
I don't know about you but I get so close to finishing things and then I set them aside and it can sometimes be quite awhile before I put the last bit of effort into finishing them for some strange reason. I guess we all have a touch of weirdness in us - lol

Oh well.

Once again if you are following on my pinterest, I have added a lot of new pins and many of them to free patterns so please check that out.

Also, check out my patterns that I have uploaded to Craftsy. There is a link on the side bar to the left.

Have a great rest of the day.....

Whoa, I am so excited. I finally received my little sewing machine. LOVE IT. But it is so tiny from what I had expected.

This is with a pen laying in front of it.

I wonder if it is a good idea to have the silver sections re-plated. Does anyone know about that?

Anyways I just love this little machine and am so happy that the seller took my offer. So if you see the make an offer button on ebay , go ahead and make an offer. The worst case scenario is that they will say NO and then you move on to other things or they could say YES and end up with a beautiful item at a fraction of the cost of the others listed on ebay.

This is in the sunlight. It has such beautiful detail in the painted motifs.

It is a bit rusty but I guess so am I after all these years lol

New Project

I think I shared this photo before but this is the one I have been working on lately. I actually have progressed pretty far on this already. I just need to add the applique, which will have to wait till this weekend.

The pattern for this is a bit different from the ones I have done before, different in a good way because I like to try out new techniques.

You can see here how the material is curved around the blocks and also this is a raw edge that is to be covered over with the vine of the applique, which I have not done before.

These are all the KT fabrics I ordered from ebay.

Oh and I found a gem on ebay that I just had to have and it is in the mail but has not arrived just yet.

Here is the picture of that
This was just too cute to pass up and very reasonable as well. I know a bit weathered but still beautiful in my eyes. It measures about 7 x 7 inches. So I am really looking forward to getting this one.
I had a singer child's model with the original box it came in - kinda like a suitcase and when it opened up it had patterns and also hangers etc. for the little girl to put her sewing creations. I sold that to a lady in Qualicum Beach BC and she said it would be used in her Christmas display at Milner Gardens. I was not out there at christmas, so I don't know if she actually did that or not.

Have a great rest of the day...

Public Domain Doll Patterns

I see so many people making a profit off these things on ebay and etsy but I sometimes wonder why people do not search them out on their own.
Anyways... Here is a collection of them that are in pdf format and available free to download.

Guess what is happening here in Weyburn Sask? It's white and falling from the sky and I am pretty sure everyone is absolutely fed up with it.
Ya.... You guessed it. SNOW again.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry anymore, this is sooooo insane.

Well, I guess, best thing to do is ignore it and get on with other things.
So... Here is the progress on the canadian quilt.

On this picture they are all laid out on the freezer paper and ready to cut and iron onto the fabric. I was in Regina on Saturday and Fabricland had remnants on sale- buy 1 get 2 free. Well of course I had to buy some. So, I managed to find one for the tulips which you can see how I turned them with glue in the following pictures.

So, now I have all the tulips done and I also went ahead and did the leaves the same way.

In the picture below, they are laid out on the quilt and tacked in place but not sewn yet.

On to the cat. I used the fusible to put the whites on his legs. I left lots of extra to turn under around the black and then I also glued those in place to hold them in place till I take it to the machine and I used a blanket stitch on that.

Here he is on the quilt. Tacked and ready to sew on.

And on this picture below. Everything is sown in place and you know what...

That is it.

It is all done except to add the backing and have it quilted. I bought the backing also on Saturday at Fabricland. It is from the Canadian Collection (which just happened to be on sale as well)  Geez, blogger will not let me upload more pictures.

Finally got it uploaded

Ok well suffice to say that it is canadian maple leaves on a black background and maybe later I can add another picture.

Now I need to find someone who will do the actual quilting for me.

This pattern will be available in the near future as soon as I finish putting the last information in and attach all the files. If you have been following along and need any of the remaining files, please email me and I will send the link to you.

I am working now on finishing up another quilt that I have started. Not as much work as this one was and I am using those beautiful KT fabrics. You know those ones, they are always lovely.

Oh and before I forget to mention this... Check out this site, you will love what this one has to offer.

And look back at her earlier posts.
Sew, now I am off to visit my sister and mom if the snow lets up long enough for me to make it there. I have not seen them in awhile and it is always good spending some time with family.

More Later, have a great rest of the day.

Sunday, April 14, 2013

Well, I have had a fairly exciting week. I had my fabric finally arrive from ebay and I am working on another quilt from Cheryl Wall's, At Home with country quilts. I am using KT fabrics for that and the combination of the beautiful quilt design by Cheryl Wall's book and the KT fabrics, I would say there is little chance of it turning out bad really. :-)

I also am involved in the yahoo group for pattern making and this week I posted a request there and lo and behold I did get a response from a very enthusiastic and nice lady who is in Niskayuna, New York and she will doing the pattern testing for me on the American Quilt. Her blog is here if you would like to visit
http://thisquiltingmama.blogspot.com/

So, I am really excited to see this idea start its journey to a tangible item. It is always fun, even at work to see something go from my imagination to the computer to the finished product. It is what I love about designing anything from signs to logos and t-shirts.

So, I am so looking forward to that and I have picked out the fabric and sent it off so when Lynn gets time now, it will be in the works and I will try to post progress as it is made.

So here is also an update on the ground hog issue, and well, I guess that is why we are still getting snow when we should be enjoying spring rain..

Seriously, this is getting a bit crazy.

I found a huge amount of great sites again today and the needlepoint and free patterns are now pinned to my pinterest account at the right side of the blog.

Also, did you get a chance to check out the BOM with Quilts by Darlene

http://quiltsbydarlene.blogspot.ca/2013/01/mystery-quilt-step-1.html

If you missed it the first time around.
Also, I am working diligently on the new BOM coming up in May so stay tuned for more with that.
Please stop by at Lynn Makrins blog and see what she is up to as well. Link is posted above.

See you tomorrow for more pictorial updates on what is happening in this part of the world.

Doll Making Blog with lots of patterns and more free cross stitch charts on my pinterest

I have not posted in awhile. Got off on a tangent searching for stuff I normally don't bother too much with.

If you love making dolls (and there are every possible kind at this blog - wow) and free patterns and tutorials for all of them too. Unreal.

http://mimindolls.blogspot.com.br

I have pinned a ton of new patterns on my pinterest boards and so many free cross stitch patterns, so please visit my pinterest ( button down the right side of blog)

I managed to get quite a few things done this week, including working on a few quilts and some more progress on the canadian quilt.

Also,  news to be posted later regarding the US quilt pattern, but will give more news on that in a later blog post.

Back again later on today or tomorrow with pics and more info.

Another Spring Day - Not!!

Ok, I have absolutely had enough snow this year.  It isn't really quite this bad but almost. lol
Gonna be a short summer if this snow does not melt soon. Of course now we are maybe in for this again

This one is from 2011 - state of disaster here and it only got worse. This was main road into town

This was the park

And the backroads were a maze, you never know where it was gonna be washed away. I really hope this is not what we are in for again this year.

More later, have a great nite.

BOM coming up in May

I worked yesterday on some new blocks and will be doing a block of the month beginning in May.
I have not gotten all the blocks worked out yet but it will be mostly applique if you are interested. I am creating appliques out of old embroidery patterns.
This is a sampling of what types of blocks there will be.

It could be partial applique and part pieced blocks - I have not got it all worked out as of yet but stay tuned.

Sunday Quilting

Well, if you have been following along on my posts about the quilt, I have made some good progress on this. I am down to putting the applique on the sides and the cat (DaVinci in case you did not know, is my cat and quilting partner) on the bottom of the quilt yet.

The side pieces I added today are the length of the quilt by 6.5 inches wide and the top and bottom black strip is 2.5 inches by the width. I also added the bottom row of 4.8 inch blocks since the last time I posted as well. So, it is pictured below with all the new additions on it.

This one is before the addition of the top and bottom black strip and before I had the watering can sewn on.

This is with the sides, top and bottom sewn on and the watering can as well. The pattern for the watering can is here.

Oops, I see that I am missing one of the stars on the bottom corner solid block. Hmm, I will have to search that one out, I am sure it is buried somewhere in my mound of scattered fabric from my quilting frenzy today.

I also started a small quilt from the book called "Quilts from Grandmother's Garden" by Jaynette Huff, you can see how it will lay out in the picture below.
I had some hexies already laying around that were a bit bigger then the ones called for here so mine will finish out larger then the one in the ebook.

I also bought a book from shopmartingdale.com book club by Cheryl Wall - her stuff is just so incredibly beautiful and so now I am waiting for my ebay order of fabric squares to arrive so that I can start one of her quilts pictured here. This one is from the book called "At Home with Country Quilts"

If you have not already checked out the martingdale book club, you should, it is great and they gave a 40.00 gift certificate too when I signed up. Of course I used that up on a ton of ebooks and they also added some free patterns as well. Great Club-Just love it so far.

The other thing I found this week is a really great bom that I had not previously seen. It was in one of the blogs that I follow but I completely missed it. Quilts by Darlene.

http://quiltsbydarlene.blogspot.ca/2013/01/mystery-quilt-step-1.html

This is the link to the first block and you will find the next ones listed there as well.

Have a great rest of the day!!

Friday, April 5, 2013

Goodmorning.
If you like antique geometry quilt blocks, this is the site to check out today. Lots of free stuff here and some amish patterns as well.
If you look around a bit I am sure you will find loads of ideas and inspiration.

And guess what? It's snowing again in Saskatchewan. But the good thing is - It's Friday.

Old BOM but still posted and quite a nice quilt too.

Tuesday, April 2, 2013

Well, it was back to work today and it was a pretty good day too. I like it when we are busy and it feels like the day flies by.
I finished my little cross stitch sampler - have you tried any of the patterns from my free patterns on pinterest? There is getting to be quite a collection up there now. Alot of quilting and embroidery stuff.

Now should I tea dye or not??

I finished the top section of the canadian quilt and if you look at the picture, there is a spot by the crow that looks very white. It isn't a stain, it's actually the sunshine coming in from the window. Can you believe it? The snow has been melting here now and I sure am not unhappy to see it go and the sunshine just makes the day so wonderful after such a long winter here.

Have a great rest of the day.

Cross Stitching

Today is my last day off before starting back to work.
I started a small cross stitch pattern last nite and it was the first time in a lot of years that I have worked on cross stitch but there are so many beautiful free patterns available.

The one that I am working on, I found pinned on pinterest - I think it was from cross-stitching.com but when I went there I could not find it anywhere. It is posted below this post for you if you want to try that pattern.
They do have beautiful free patterns there and if you like cross stitch you could spend some time there getting free patterns.

The other pattern is free from Blackbird Designs.
Link is here http://www.dashdist.com/blackbird_backup/blackbird-sampler.html

There are also some great free quilt patterns on this site.
Link is here http://bluehillfabrics.net/projects

I think after I get my canadian quilt done, I may start on some of the patterns there, I really love Alice's Washday and the Lincoln era one or and Colonial favorites. See, way too many quilts - I need 5 more lifetimes to do them all :-)

I have a board on pinterest, you will see link on right side tab and it has many free patterns pinned on my board called Free Patterns that you may want to check out as well.
